Hello world!

Welcome to Sucker Literary Magazine where raw, undiscovered, talented writers for young adults have the opportunity to strut their stuff. As we are a fledgling outfit, we will be eating the elephant one tiny bite at a time (how’s that for some mixed metaphors?) That is to say, our immediate goal is to collect submissions for our first issue, scheduled to be released by the fall/winter of 2011-2012. Currently, we are seeking FICTION ONLY (no stand alone poetry unless it is a short story or chapter from a novel in verse) and welcome all genres of YA writing. Bring on your skateboarding vampires, angst ridden, nerd-boy who has never been kissed, or girl crushing on her best friend (be it girl or boy).

Submissions should be sent to suckerliterarymagazine at cox dot net. Subject line in ALL CAPS: SUBMISSION. Standard manuscript format is required, 12-point font (Times or Times New Roman), double-spaced with one-inch margins all around. Attachments are required. Please do not send your work in the body of your email. In your cover email, please include a brief bio (no more than forty words, please.) Short stories or novel excerpts are welcome. Submissions should be no more than 10,000 words  (and even that’s pushing it). If your piece is part of a larger body of work, include a brief, three sentence summary in your submission.

DEADLINE: October 1, 2011.

Sucker is also looking for artists willing to donate their time and talent to helping us create our first cover. Additionally, some help in the area of design and layout is needed. Please contact us for further details at suckerliterarymagazine at cox dot net.

Sucker is an online literary magazine only (for now), and all authors retain FULL rights to their work. Multiple submissions are fine (and expected!). If your work has been featured elsewhere, please include that in your cover email with your piece.

Sucker‘s founding editor also happens to have a (several) day jobs and is a parent, so please be patient while we read your submissions. Expect a response within four months. Then you can start harassing us (and by us, I really mean me).

Sucker will be increasing its staff and is always interested in talented writers and artists willing to assist (donate your time) with editing, layout, and design. Feel free to email us:  suckerliterarymagazine at cox dot net

Sucker WILL NOT publish anything that is gratuitously violent, homophobic, or hateful. So don’t even try it.

If you would like to be added to out email list, please send an email with the words SUBSCRIBE TO NEWSLETTER in the subject line plus your first and last name in the body of the email. suckerliterarymagazine at cox dot net
